Another Drawing....

  • Apr. 2nd, 2008 at 10:03 PM
Me?, Drunk!, Unsure....., Magpie1, OLDHAM!, The Wall, The Bar, Katmandi at the end of the bar..., beastly, Samurai, Sad, Party time!, Catmandi!, opps!, Darkwaterfrey?
This is a brush and pen commission for a good friend of mine....I used some "fancy"
dry-brush and split-line textures---sadly they don't scan real well, so some of the fragile intimate details are lost....ah, oh well.

wooooow! despite the scan I still think this is spectacular! The textures and shading are so awesome!

Hey thanks Josh! My textures often seem to get muddy fast--so I tried to keep it (relativly) simple.

No problem man! I am always impressed and inspired by your stuff!
Cami read your mini that I got at SPX, and she really liked your style too!

Oh? Which mini?
[info]joshpm wrote:

It's blue and has a silver screen print of The Magpie on it? It says Traume Von Magpie: The Magpie Val II

I got it from Joey and David Yoder's table at SPX!

Ah! I see! That one's okay, I wish I could re-do some of it--the next one will be better. Thanks for picking it up!

It's pretty polished in my opinion, the only suggestion I would have would be to number the pages! haha

You're welcome! Hopefully I can get one from you in person at some point?

HAHAH!
Most people believe that I'm a figment of their imagination, but I have made a few appearances at some 'cons. There's a huge group of people I'd like to meet, and you're on the LIST. I might go to SPX this year, and maybe stop hiding.

Re: HAHAH!
well that'd be rad! I will certainly be at SPX with probably like a million new mini comics!

So it looks EVEN BETTER in real life? Whoa.
Another amazing image from you! WhoO!

Yeah...I hate scanning my stuff, there's just a certain quality to watercolor and other techniques that really need to be examined in person. Not that you're really missing out on anything, it's just little things I notice that drive me crazy-- also I like how light reflects off the actual paper, as opposed to seeing it in some digital landscape.

hahahah! Thanks, but you're far more suited to making a living at this than most of us here!

Your work is wonderful, and I'm so glad I have something of yours to pour over.

Cartoon College Dude! There are cartoonists there!

Old and wise ones and young and upstarty ones too!

White River Junction would sure be a change from the big city.

Thanks, I like working with the brush---sometimes it just works so quick and easy, and othertimes it's a horrific experience and I slink back to the nibs all defeated.

The scanner may not have been able to get all the texture, but there sure is a lot to look at anyway! I love the rouch, old textures juxtaposed with the clean, smooth women. It is way busy, so I wonder what it would have been like in color. :)

I think it's the direction of the "lighting" that leads the eye off the page and makes it appear busier than it actually is.
