D'OH!
thanks! Hey...I know we've all been occupied, but I really do want to do the anthology project. I realize that the deadline came and went, and the show in which to premiere the book is over, but I'd really like to contribute to a book.

So maybe another shot at a total worldwide Monster and Robot book?

Re: D'OH!
Yes! I was just thinking this. Maybe if we had a more realistic deadline, that would help ;) I'll try to post in my LJ about this before the end of the week, with very specific guidelines.

Re: D'OH!
That sounds great! I'll make it top priority. Let's make sure that this time we're all on the same page, and I think it'll work out fine.

wow. That guy's pretty intense about his materials.....real fish parts and everything. I don't think I could play with skins, teeth, and bones all day. I have to admit that his creations are amazing though.....even if they're creepy.

It's like if Mike Mignola sculpted fish for a living......

Whoa, that is some awesome shit!

And you do it old fashioned style! With real lettering!
[info]darkwaterfrey wrote:

Thanks!!
Yeah. I use discontinued easterbrooke Falcon nibs for both lettering and inking (well, at least the Katmandi stuff....I also really like using a brush {a #2 sable hair}). Although I don't use an Ames lettering guide, but at one time, I played around with it. With these pages I rule out lines and just letter in a vague manner, hence the irregular sizing throughout the pages. I like the feel of the older materials....yet I draw in my sketchbook using gel pens, brush pens, and assorted newer utensils.

Re: Thanks!!
I was thinking about doing computer lettering. After seeing this I am reconsidering.

Did you ever see the comic I did? It is on [info]missy_reaper, in the "memories" section, on the userinfo page, if you ever want to look at it.

Re: Thanks!!
Man! That comic is pretty awesome!

The "trick" with good hand lettering isn't the letters, It's making sure that the space between the edge of the ballons and the letters aren't too close. I noticed that right away with your lettering on your comic. My advice, Letter smaller to keep your letters more consistent, and you'll have more space for you ballons to "breathe".....regardless how skritchy the letters can get.

ahhhhh, whatever, that's just my opinion.

Re: Thanks!!
Glad you like it. And yeah, you might be right. (about the lettering) Regardless of whether I do it by hand or computer, i want to re-letter it.

When I did it, I didnt even have a drawing desk, I drew it with a ruler.

I want to re-do it with an alvin drawing desk with a slide rule, and a tablet.

...extra creepy awesome.

Thankfully, I didn't have to use photo-reference of what real crabs/lobsters look like, I think the close up real pictures would've given me nightmares.

Floored, flabbergasted, and any other manner of alliterative nonsense describing joy! I simply can't believe how great your work is. Crabmandi in particular is marvelous, despite my wanting him on a plate with melted butter.

I hope you'll forgive me for this though: Page three (in the spread), first panel, the word balloon belonging to the Nosferatu-esque gentleman in the hat. Descend.

Only thing wrong with any of these. Top-notch stuff.
[info]darkwaterfrey wrote:
Nov. 20th, 2007 06:11 pm (UTC)
Descend, as in move the ballon lower?

And if so, is it because it sits on that guys head? hmmmmm. I fear if I move it down it'll rest in the space between his ear and shoulder---merging it all into a single shape? Any ideas? (yes, and thanks for the kind words!)
[info]grahamtastic wrote:
Nov. 20th, 2007 07:59 pm (UTC)
No, I mean you misspelled the word descend. The drawing is fine (better than fine); I'm just a stickler for spelling and grammar. Misspelled words like that are the first thing I notice on a page, and given how amazing the drawings are I just really want the writing to match them in quality.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled, non-obsessive comments page. :)
